Imagine yourself immersed in the sweltering jungle of prehistoric days… the leaves tremble at the sudden thunder emanating from the ground, the heat presses in around you as you anticipate the rumbling roar of the approaching beast… just think of how our child pictures those primitive days as he sits in history/science class. Let’s expand on that fabulous imagination with a Dinosaur Birthday Party!
Have your child draw a jungle scene on white cardstock and decorate with dinosaur stickers for a fantastically simple invitation. You can also get some fierce pre-made dinosaur invitations if you would rather go the straightforward route. On the big day, set the mood with your decorations. Think of GIANT dinosaur decals along the walls, dino footprints tracking through the house, jungle green steamers and balloons arranged to look as though something could be hiding behind them… your imagination can really go crazy here!
Gear the kids with binoculars so they can keep an eye out for the giant T-Rex. When not hunting the “big game,” occupy their time with other fun activities like a Dino Egg Hunt or a Dinosaur Dig (bury plastic dinosaur toys in a large sandbox). A rousing game of Dinosaur Seek would be a blast, as well. For this game, have one person hide. The group spreads out to find this Dino, but whoever finds him then has to hide with him and so on and so on until one Dinosaur is left, who then becomes the new person to hide.
Offer fare that appeals to both carnivores and herbivores – hamburgers and chicken nuggets, veggie trays and fruit platters. You can also get creative by cutting sandwiches into dinosaur shapes or look for food that displays the ancient beasts. Some yogurt brands have dinos on their packaging and there is a company that makes dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets.
The tales and history of the primal dinosaurs appeals to children from 3 to 100, so create that world with a wickedly cool Dinosaur Birthday Party!
