A Native American legend says that if you whisper your secret to a butterfly, it will carry that wish up to the Great Spirit. While I don’t know if it has ever worked for me, I do know that butterflies, with their fluttering wings and immense capacity for stimulating the romantic imagination, are the epitome of little girls everywhere. A Butterfly Birthday Party will be a fabulous tribute to this delicate creature and our delicate girls!
There are pretty pink invitations available for purchase, should you be so inclined. If not, make your own with bright pink cardstock cut into a butterfly shape. With glitter markers, decorate your butterfly on the front and write the event details on the back.
Since butterflies symbolize transformation, your guests should go through their own change as they arrive! Gift them with butterfly wings and then paint their faces with beautiful colors, glitter, and swirling lines. Game ideas can include:
• Musical Butterflies – played just like Musical Chairs
• Cocoon Race – split your guests into two teams. Each team then gets a pile of toilet paper. The first group to “cocoon” all of their teammates wins
• Butterfly Seek – give the kids some nets and hide toy butterflies all over the place. The person to collect the most in their net wins!
Remember to send the girls home with a goodie box filled with butterfly fun!
Serve up dainty dishes that your fluttery girls would enjoy. Sandwiches cut into butterfly shapes, bagels topped with cream cheese, celery sticks filled with peanut butter (use pretzels to stick in the peanut butter like wings), and fruit salad. Decorate your table with flowers of all kinds for the flutterers to sniff on.
A Butterfly Birthday Party will certainly delight your youngster, especially when you add all the special touches.
