Ideas for Hosting a Puppy Birthday Party

Puppy Birthday PartyPuppies are so cute with their playful exhuberance, oversized paws, and those little eyes that can get you do do just about anything.  They can, in many ways, be very similar to our own children.  If your child loves puppies and dogs then a Puppy Birthday Party may be perfect for them.  Here are some ideas for hosting one.

Dogs and puppies love bones and dog cookies.  This should be a dominant theme for your party.  Start out with bone shaped party invitations.  You can make your own out of cardstock.  Before cutting them into shape, print the party details directly onto the cardstock on a printer.  Use a piece of cardboard cut into a bone as a template.  Trace onto the cardstock and use scissors to cut.  Here is some sample wording for the puppy party invitation:

Bark!  Woof! Calling all puppies.

A great activity for a puppy party is to help each guest make their own pair of dog ears.  For this craft you will need some headbands, foam sheets, adhesive, and adult helpers.  Precut the foam sheets into dog ear shapes to make the craft easier for little children.  Let them pick out a headband and two ears.  Afix the ears with adhesive (pick something that dries quickly) to the headband.  Your party guests can now pretend to be puppies for the rest of the party.  You can also allow your guests to embellish their ears further with glitter, markers, and beads if you would like a more involved craft.

Puppy food is an important element to a puppy birthday party.  Make puppy chow as a snack for your guests.  Use a bone shaped cookie cutter with your favorite cookie dough recipe to create “puppy biscuits”.  Make cupcakes and place them on a cake tray in the shape of a large bone.

Make sure to send your party guests home with a doggy bag!  Fill it with some great dog themed party favors such as a dog bone shaped straws, puppy stickers, and a puppy bean bag.  Your child and your guests will have a wonderful time at the Puppy Birthday Party.
