How to Host a Safari Party

Safari Birthday PartyLions and Tigers and Zebras! Oh my! Throwing a safari party can be great fun. It is also a party that will appeal to children of all ages.

You will want to fill your home or party location with animals. Get your children involved and make animal cutouts from paperboard. Or purchase inflatable animals. Don’t forget the plastic snakes. Hang green crepe paper from the ceiling to simulate the tree canopy of a rainforest.

Set up an activity station for the guests to make animal masks or enlist someone to paint faces. For a simple party favor pass out disposable cameras for the children to go on photographic safari with.

Plan a treasure hunt and call it going on safari. Hide clues around your yard or home. If children are too young to read, have an adult read the clues aloud. They will have to figure out the clues to find the next clue. You could place a treasure at each clue or have a big treasure chest at the end filled with goodie bags.

Some favor ideas suitable for a Safari Party are: pith helmets, binoculars, magnifying glass, compass, anything camouflage or animal print, and little plastic animals.

Make a banner for over the food table that says “Water Hole.” Have tent cards for each dish with themed names: Gone Bananas Bread, Jungle Juice (punch), Grass Lands Salad, Wild Pigs in a Blanket, Buzzard Bait (chicken wings), and Prairie Pasta Salad. For the cake, use white frosting and sprinkle crushed vanilla wafer cookies on top for sand. Frost a small section blue to create an oasis. Then place some plastic trees and animals around the cake.

Hopefully these ideas help you in planning a fun Safari Party. The possibilities are endless and your guests would be lion if they said they didn’t have a great time.
