Luau PartyA luau party can be a popular summertime party or a great way to chase away the winter blahs.  Whatever time of year your party, here are some great ideas to have a good time.

Set the mood with your invitation to the party.  Find a photo of a surfer or hula dancer, a map of Hawaii, or cut a volcano out of construction paper.  If you have a cd-burner on your computer make a Hawaiian compilation cd and create a label with the party specifics.  Make sure you only use songs that are copyright and royalty free.  This is also a great favor idea to pass out at the party.  Tell your guests to wear their favorite Hawaiian shirts and beach shorts.

Decorate your home with pineapples, coconuts, mangos and other tropical fruit.  Create cardboard cut outs of palm trees, volcanoes, and surfboards.  Find Birds of Paradise from your local florist or garden center.

When your guest arrive, place a lei around their neck and welcome them to the “island.”  Hire a local hire hula dancer to perform and teach your guests some moves.  Have Hawaiian music playing.  Israel Kamakawiwo’ole, or IZ, is a popular artist in Hawaii.  If there are children at the party, find a build a volcano kit.

Serve your guests food in the style of the islands.  Have a tropical fruit salad, macadamia nuts, pineapple, kabobs, and goldfish shaped crackers.  Consider hiring a caterer to do a pig roast.

Send your guests home with a favor bag filled with items for them to remember the party with.  Some ideas are sunglasses, bag or jar of beach sand, seashells, and leis.

With the above ideas you will be able to transport your guests to the islands and to a luau getaway.  A Luau Party will be a party that you will want to repeat often.  Have fun!
