These days it is getting easier and easier to find inspiration when planning a birthday party. So many people are wanting to share their birthday parties whether on a blog, Facebook or on Pinterest.
Typically a theme for a birthday party in our house is picked based on the little elf’s current likes and hobbies. Past birthday themes have included ballerinas, unicorns, and ladybugs. This year it looks like we have settled on a birthday with Olivia the Pig party supplies. I would like to have the party stand out of course, so here is a little of what I have been doing to find inspiration.
First off I was check Celebrate Express to see if the theme that we want is available. I might also hit some local party supply retailers and check out what they have. Armed with my phone, data plan, and the Evernote app I take pictures of both the products that I like and their prices. Evernote allows me to sync the data with my computer, making it a very handy research tool.
Then I start searching online to see what other people have done for their children. One of the hottest trends in parties right now is to have a dessert table that coordinates with your party colors. All of the food and drinks are the same color as the party theme and everything is labeled. Super cute! I will search online for blogs and the type of party that I am looking for. That tends to give me some really great inspiration and sometimes even how to posts. I can even use Evernote on my computer to make a clip of what I like to use for later.
The biggest trend on the internet right now seems to be Pinterest and you can find bunches of party inspiration there. Just do a search for whatever you are looking for (theme cakes, decorations, party favors, etc) and you are sure to come up with a number of things that others have pinned. Not familiar with it? Then head on over to the Partyelf Pinterest board and check it out.
Another great way to find party inspiration is from other birthday parties that you have attended. Think back to favorite events from your childhood parties or birthday parties that you have attended with your children. What was really well done and what didn’t work out at all? What are some of your fondest memories? Most likely if you still remember them, then it is something that your kids and their guests will love to too.
