Elmo Birthday Party

Just about every small child knows the “Elmo’s World” song by heart and with that much love for the wee red guy, hosting an Elmo Birthday Party seems a natural choice.

Creating an Elmo invitation is a fun, easy task that your child can help with. First, print an image of Elmo onto red paper and cut out his outline. Fold cardstock in half and paste Elmo’s figure to the outside. Your child can draw Dorothy, cool shapes, and fun faces around Elmo while you write something along the lines of “Elmo Love Parties, so you are invited to…” along the top. There are very cute ready-made invitations that you can use, too, if you prefer.

Food for an Elmo Birthday Party should be relatively easy fare. If I recall, Elmo is a big fan of pizza! Sandwiches cut into fun shapes like stars or fish is a great idea, as well, and be sure to serve up Goldfish crackers to pay homage to Dorothy. Follow lunch up with an Elmo cake – you can easily find his face as a cake pan!

Elmo can inspire nearly any type of game at a party! Here are some fun ideas to get the kids active:

  • Play Pass the Goldfish: this is just like the game of Pass the Egg, so have the kids line up into two equal lines. Each child has a spoon and they must pass the Goldfish Cracker from one spoon to the other down the line. When the Goldfish reaches the end of the line, that team is the winner!
  • Letter of the Day is fun for the older child who is learning reading/words. Split the children into two groups and see which group can come up with the most words using the first letter of the Birthday Kid’s name.
  • You can’t go wrong with Pin the Nose on Elmo. His large orange nose is unmistakable and will provide tons of laughter as the kids try to stick it back on. Find an Elmo poster or construction paper cutout. With orange paper, cut out round nose shapes and add the name of each guest onto each nose. Place double sided sticky tape onto the back to stick.

Send the kids home with their own party favor box filled with stickers, crayons, Elmo notepad, rubber ducky and a glitter ball. In your fabulous tribute to the popular Sesame Street hero, your Elmo Birthday Party will delight many small children.
