Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday (which is Tuesday, February 16 this year), is a fun celebration with parades, merriment, and joyous togetherness. It makes for a colorful, exciting event so host a Mardi Gras Party for your kids!
Start off by making fabulous invitations. Purchase some paper Mardi Gras masks and decorate with sequins, glitter, and feathers. Attach a parchment paper scroll to the mask, detailing your party information. Encourage your guests to come dressed in their finest Mardi Gras costume (kings, queens, princesses, dukes, etc) and to wear the attached mask. Make sure you stock up on your tableware and Mardi Gras beads!
As your guests arrive, give them 5 bead necklaces and let them know the rules of the very first game: Anyone who is caught saying the words ‘Tuesday’ or ‘Mardi Gras’ (the IT words) must give one of their beads to the person who caught them. The guest with the most beads at the end of the party wins! Other activities like Charades, Mardi Gras Trivia, Dancing, and Picture Taking will surely entertain. Of course, an absolute must have event is the Mardi Gras Parade, complete with a King and Queen!
Foods in the New Orleans tradition will delight all of the party goers. Think about Mint Juleps, Jambalaya, Collard Greens, Beignets, Pancakes, and Donuts. Everyone’s bellies will be stuffed (happily, though).
With these simple tips, your Mardi Gras Party will be the festival of the year!
